How do you remember the 1990s? The Cold War was over. Reagan was gone. For some, the decade was all a blur of Windows 95, Chicago Bulls victories, Clinton-Lewinsky jokes, Nirvana, and The Simpsons supplemented by Jerry Springer and The X-Files. After all, it was a lucrative period that flourished with technological, entertainment, and commercial possibilities.
While some Americans experienced levels of pleasure and success that wouldn’t have been possible in previous decades, others feared for their rights, safety, and futures. As high-profile events like The OJ Simpson Murder Trial, The Oklahoma City Bombing, Ruby Ridge, and The Los Angeles Riots divided the nation and erected new and old fears, troubles abounded globally, sometimes bursting through the bubbles of American privelege and consumerism to bring attention to the USA’s foreign policy and generate reflection and outrage.
In this highly detailed history of the nineties, Youtube sensation Elexus ‘Lexual’ Jionde explores the world at the so-called “End of History” by looking at global issues, the economy, the culture wars, Clinton’s political strategies, the Black-American community, youth culture, women, right-wing extremism, and more.
You’ll never look at the nineties the same way again.
